Perhaps some of you already have seen me here and there during the PTR program, or maybe we are already very good friends. But, just in case, my name is Daniel Serrano-Bernal. Before my studies in the Netherlands I was a researcher focusing on Sexual and Gender Violence in the Colombian conflict. Yet, nowadays I am an alumni of the PTR program and the Divinity Master. Long story short, I started the PTR program, jumped into the second year of the Research Master, and finished with the third year of the Divinity Master. It was a lot, but it was worth it. In my path I have met many people and I have learned a lot during my years as a student and as the Student Assistant for 3 years in the ACRPJ.
Since September 2021, with the diploma in my hand I was in my last year as the Student Assistant, I started a job as a church guard in the Mennonite church in Amsterdam, and I also started to be a youth worker in the Mennonite community of Haarlem. In the three jobs my goal was creating safe spaces for every person that was passing by, arriving, or staying in those different places.
As my life has been full of surprises, at the end of the last academic year, the Mennonite community of Haarlem askmed to become a pastor for their community. After the summer break and a proof preaching on the 28th August, I was accepted as a pastor of the Mennonite community.
Nowadays I work and live in Haarlem, and be sure that you all are welcome to have a nice Colombian coffee and a nice time in this beautiful city.
