Bio
I studied theology at the university of Hamburg, where I am now working as a research assistant. Besides working at the Center for Peace Church Theology, I am a PhD student at the VU Amsterdam and KU Leuven for a joint degree project.

Project:
With my PhD Project, I want to learn more about the concept of epistemic violence and how affects the way we talk about peace from a theological perspective. Looking at the German context, I suspect a need for deconstructing theological argumentations on war and peace because they contain traces of epistemic violence or injustices. In addition to that, I also wonder whether a theological perspective could add a new dimension to the concept of epistemic violence that is not seen by other academic disciplines?

Nyssa Janice Latumeten

Bio

My name is Nyssa Janice Latumeten. I am an Indonesian woman, theologian, and mother. I live in our home in Ede, the Netherlands, with my husband, Danang, and our two daughters, Kantiana and Renea. As a Ph.D. student at the Faculty of Religion and Theology at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, my research focuses on feminist and gender studies, feminist spirituality, trauma theology, and theology of peace. I approach theology through the lenses of trauma and feminist studies, seeking to explore and amplify voices of resilience, healing, and justice.

Project:

One of the awakening moments in my life was my work with the National Commission on Violence against Women (Komnas Perempuan) in Indonesia, specifically with the Papua Task Force. My role was to meet and document cases of violence against Papuan women. From my first encounter with them, I realized that I had become a witness to their long and unspeakable suffering. As a woman theologian, I carry the responsibility to give voice to my witnessing and to bring forth the silent and hidden stories of Papuan women’s trauma. Through my research, I seek to create a dialogue between Papuan women’s experiences of trauma and the Stigmata of Christ, exploring how this connection can serve as a well of peace (healing) in this pilgrimage of faith.
