Theology after Gaza

A joint conversation based on the newly released book Theology After Gaza. 

What do we, in the Netherlands and wider Europe, are to learn from the latest occurrences in Palestine/Israel? The realities in Gaza unsettle the narratives we tell about justice and Christian theology. It confronts us with the ways in which theologies contribute to dehumanization and violence. Palestinian liberation theology becomes a disruptive witness, compelling what we have refused to see in Christian theology. This conversation invites us to rethink — and to wrestle with — how our theologies need to be transformed in the light of the Genocide in Gaza.

Speakers:

Graham McGeoch

Graham McGeoch teaches Theology and Religious Studies at Faculdade Unida de Vitória (UNIDA), Brazil. He is a research associate at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. He helps to coordinate the DARE Global Forum, an initiative of the Council for World Mission. His most recent book is Theology After Gaza (eds Mitri Raheb & Graham McGeoch, Cascade, 2025)

Viola Raheb

Viola Raheb is a Palestinian theologian, born in Bethlehem, Palestine. She has headed the educational work of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and Palestine, and has worked as a researcher at the University of Vienna. 

Janneke Stegeman 

Janneke Stegeman does research into Dutch identity in relation to colonialism and Protestantism. For the past 15 years, she has been working as a public theologian and activist around social issues related to theological legacies, such as gender, racialization and Israel and Palestine. She is board member of Kairos-Sabeel Netherlands, and lectures at the Vrije Universiteit at EMOENA course for interfaith cooperation.
